Mumbai, May 31: Renowned singer Kumar Sanu and composer Anu Malik created numerous hits in the 1990s that still resonate with audiences today. Recently, an old video of Kumar Sanu has gone viral, where he recounts an intriguing incident during a recording session with Anu Malik on The Kapil Sharma Show.
During the conversation, Kumar Sanu revealed that arguments often occurred during their recording sessions. He stated, “It became a part of our working dynamic. I have always tried to give my best on the first attempt. I would enter the recording room and sing with full confidence, but there was one instance where Anu Malik’s reaction was completely unexpected.”
Kumar Sanu explained, “As soon as I finished recording, Anu Malik expressed his displeasure. He said, ‘You are singing very poorly; your voice doesn’t sound right, and you are off-key.’ His words were quite harsh, and I was taken aback. I thought there must have been a significant mistake in the recording. I asked him what the issue was and where he wanted improvements. After that, I decided to re-record the song.”
He continued, “I put in a lot of effort and recorded the song again. When we finished, I hoped Anu Malik would provide some feedback, but he didn’t say a word. He simply got up from his seat and walked out of the studio. This left me even more confused. I had no idea whether he liked the song or not. A little while later, the recording engineer informed me that the recording was complete and I could go home. I then left the studio and headed home.”
Kumar Sanu further shared, “That night around 11 PM, my phone rang. It was Anu Malik on the other end. He affectionately called me by my nickname and said, ‘You sang wonderfully today.’ Although he had shown anger during the recording, it took him seven to eight hours to compliment me.”
Together, Anu Malik and Kumar Sanu have produced several songs that remain popular, including ‘Tere Dar Par Sanam’, ‘Chura Ke Dil Mera’, and ‘Baazigar’, which are still cherished by the younger generation.
