Mumbai, May 31: The film industry frequently discusses fitness and beauty, especially in the age of social media. This pressure has intensified, particularly among women striving for a flat stomach and a zero-figure silhouette. In light of this, Bollywood actress Taapsee Pannu openly shared her views, emphasizing that every part of the body serves a purpose, and attempting to alter it solely for appearances is misguided.
Taapsee took to Instagram Stories to express, “There was a time when I too wanted a flat stomach. I have been fit since childhood and exercised daily, yet I still had a bit of fat around my lower abdomen. At that time, I couldn’t understand why this happened. This led me to over-exercise.”
She further explained, “Eventually, I realized that excessive exercise isn’t always beneficial. When someone pushes their body beyond its limits, the body perceives it as a threat. In response, it begins to retain water for self-protection. Sometimes, the bulge in the lower abdomen is not just fat but can also be due to water retention. Overworking can exacerbate this issue.”
Taapsee continued, “Every woman’s body is unique, and no two individuals have the same physical structure. Hormones in women fluctuate constantly, affecting body shape. Therefore, it’s unrealistic to expect the body to look the same every day. Many women compare themselves to others or to images on social media, which is incorrect. Each person’s body functions according to its own needs and nature.”
She also referenced her nutritionist, Munmun Ganeriwal, stating, “Having a bit of fat and water in the lower abdomen is considered essential for women. This area houses reproductive organs that require protection. The body naturally creates a slight layer for this purpose. Thus, it should not be viewed as a sign of weakness or poor fitness.”
