Ghazipur, May 31: In a shocking incident in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, a hotelier’s son was shot dead by four masked assailants two days ago. On Sunday, the victim’s father accused the police of negligence and alleged that some members of the police force are colluding with the gang responsible for the crime. He has called for an encounter with the accused and bulldozer action against their properties.
According to investigators, the main suspect is reportedly linked to the notorious ‘Katra gang.’
The victim, Vineet Rai’s father, Alok Rai, stated that the family has no personal enmity with anyone. In an interview, he described the accused as a criminal who leads the ‘Katra gang.’ He noted that the suspect’s house is located just 100 meters north of their hotel, with the village head’s house situated right behind the hotel. The village head’s brother is also said to be the gang’s leader.
Alok Rai alleged that the village head provides shelter to gang members and that the incident was orchestrated by this group. He claimed that the accused had previously demanded extortion money from their family.
“They initially asked us for 2 million rupees to operate our hotel, then increased it to 10 million rupees,” he said, firmly rejecting any payment for extortion. “We will shut down the hotel instead.”
Blaming police negligence for the incident, Rai mentioned that he had written applications to the DGP, ADG of Varanasi, and the local SP, even sending reminders, but no action was taken.
He estimated that there have been around 20 similar incidents in the Kotwali area, with only two or three cases resulting in FIRs. He asserted that all crimes in the area stem from extortion.
Rai also expressed concerns about police collusion with the extortion gang, alleging that some officers have actively assisted the gang in their operations.
Claiming that law and order in Ghazipur is in complete disarray, the grieving father called for justice for his son. He demanded that the accused be encountered and that bulldozers be used on the homes of Katra gang members, labeling them as illegal constructions.
