Iran Will Not Accept Deal with US Without Ensuring Citizens Rights: Speaker Ghalibaf

Tehran, May 31: Iran’s parliamentary speaker and chief negotiator, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, stated that Tehran will not accept any agreement to resolve its disputes with the United States until it ensures the protection of Iranian citizens’ rights.

According to media reports, Ghalibaf made this statement during a virtual parliamentary session on Sunday morning, where he was sworn in again as the speaker of the Iranian parliament. He emphasized that the political assemblies of some countries consist of a council of executive officials who collectively manage operations alongside or in place of the president.

He further remarked, “We cannot trust the enemy’s words and promises. Our only criterion is to achieve concrete results before fulfilling our commitments in return.”

Recently, U.S. President Donald Trump claimed that negotiations between the U.S. and Iran are in their final stages. He also asserted that the U.S. would extract enriched uranium buried in debris from Iran, a claim that Iran has dismissed.

Trump also stated that Iran has agreed not to develop or acquire nuclear weapons. According to the Xinhua news agency, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baghaei mentioned in a telephone interview with state TV channel IRIB that communication between both parties is ongoing. This statement came at a time when Trump publicly outlined his conditions for a potential agreement with Iran, indicating that he would make a decision soon.

Baghaei reiterated that Iran’s current focus in the negotiations is to end the war. He stated, “At this stage, we are not discussing the details related to Iran’s uranium enrichment or enriched uranium.”

Discussing the potential reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, Baghaei noted that the future management of this strait concerns only Iran and Oman. Earlier, in a social media post, Trump outlined his demands, stating, “Iran must agree that they will never have any nuclear weapons or bombs.”
