New Delhi, April 5: Former Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin praised Sai Sudharsan’s performance for Gujarat Titans (GT) in the absence of captain Shubman Gill. Ashwin noted that Sudharsan’s batting showcased his understanding of his strengths.
Ashwin stated on GeoStar, “Sai Sudharsan knew that Shubman wasn’t playing today, so he had to take on the responsibility himself. The way he started showed that he understands his strengths. He effectively utilized pace, guided the ball towards third man, and played some excellent cover drives off the front foot. He faced Jadeja’s attack right after coming in and used pace well, followed by a slog sweep.”
He added, “These are strong areas for Sudharsan, and he trusts them, which yielded results. He needs to continue playing this way, maintaining a good tempo for the innings. For Gujarat Titans, Shubman Gill’s absence was a significant blow. Clearly, when Shubman returns, this opening pair will be crucial for the team moving forward.”
Sudharsan opened the innings against Rajasthan Royals on Saturday, scoring a remarkable 73 runs off 44 balls. Despite his efforts, GT lost the match by 6 runs.
Rajasthan Royals won the toss and batted first, scoring 210 runs for the loss of 6 wickets. GT managed only 204 runs for 8 wickets in their 20 overs.
It is worth noting that Shubman Gill missed the match against RR due to muscle cramps. In his absence, Rashid Khan captained Gujarat.
