
Beijing, June 2: The Chinese Ministry of Culture and Tourism released a statistical report on cultural and tourism development for 2025 on Tuesday. According to the report, by the end of 2025, there will be 16,994 A-level tourist attractions across the country, providing direct employment to 1.739 million people. These sites welcomed 7.51 billion tourists throughout the year, generating a tourism revenue of 554.49 billion yuan.
The report also noted that by the end of 2025, there will be 1,879 performing arts groups affiliated with cultural and tourism departments in China. A total of 392,000 performances were held during the year, marking an increase of 1.8 percent compared to 2024. The number of domestic viewers reached 310 million, up 2.4 percent from the previous year.
Furthermore, the data indicated that there will be 740 public art museums in China by the end of 2025, hosting 11,000 exhibitions throughout the year, which is a 2.7 percent increase from 2024. These museums attracted 7.886 million visitors, a rise of 9.4 percent compared to the previous year. Additionally, there are 3,253 public libraries and 44,000 community cultural institutions across the country.
The report stated that by the end of 2025, there will be 1,557 nationally recognized intangible cultural heritage items and 3,994 representative inheritors of this heritage. Across the nation, there are 2,388 institutions dedicated to the preservation of intangible cultural heritage, employing 17,000 people. Throughout the year, these institutions organized 82,000 events, a 3 percent increase from 2024, along with 21,000 folk activities, which is 0.2 percent more than the previous year, and 23,000 exhibitions, up 4.8 percent from 2024.
The report also highlighted that cultural activities became more vibrant in 2025, with continuous growth in the cultural industry, a revitalized tourism sector, and an ongoing integration of culture and tourism. The goals and tasks of the “14th Five-Year Plan” (2021-2025) were effectively achieved, further enhancing the role of economic and social development, contributing positively to the overall efforts of the party and the country, and better meeting the needs for improved living standards.
