Record Number of Pilgrims Attend Char Dham Yatra, Safety and Convenience Top Priorities: CM Dhami

Dehradun, June 2: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami held a review meeting at the secretariat on Tuesday regarding the arrangements for the Char Dham Yatra. He instructed officials to prepare Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure a smooth, safe, and organized pilgrimage experience for devotees. Strict adherence to the ban on vehicle movement from 10 PM to 4 AM on travel routes was emphasized.

During a media interaction, CM Dhami noted that a record number of pilgrims visited the Char Dham temples during the first phase of the pilgrimage. The number of devotees has significantly increased compared to previous years. This surge has posed challenges for the administration, temple committees, and religious organizations in managing arrangements at certain locations. With the monsoon season approaching and the pilgrimage entering its next phase, it is crucial that all arrangements function efficiently. The safety and convenience of the pilgrims remain our top priority. We have also reviewed road conditions, drinking water facilities, accommodation, darshan arrangements, helicopter services, and transportation options.

He acknowledged that some pilgrims faced difficulties due to the high numbers in recent days, and this has been taken into account. Reviews were conducted regarding routes, water supply, accommodation, darshan arrangements, helicopter services, transportation, and traffic management. Sensitive areas prone to landslides or disasters have been identified, and necessary arrangements have been made. Adequate provisions for drinking water, toilets, and other facilities are being ensured at holding zones and pilgrimage starting points.

CM Dhami criticized those who engage in politics during this time, suggesting they are unhappy with the influx of pilgrims from across the country and the world to Char Dham. He mentioned that some individuals are attempting to tarnish the image of the Char Dham Yatra by uploading negative videos. It seems they are not pleased that hotels are fully booked, taxi drivers, traders, and homestay operators are thriving, and employment opportunities are being created. He pointed out that even friends from the Congress party are not refraining from politicizing the situation. While politics is essential, opposing the Char Dham Yatra, which sustains the livelihood of the state and represents a significant spiritual journey, sends the wrong message.

CM Dhami expressed optimism that the number of pilgrims would continue to rise rapidly. This influx not only boosts tourism but also enhances local businesses. Officials have been directed to ensure basic facilities at locations where pilgrims are stopped or accommodated. They are also instructed to monitor sensitive and landslide-prone areas along the travel routes 24/7, coordinate the deployment of SDRF, NDRF, police, and administration, and maintain active traffic management, parking arrangements, medical facilities, and disaster relief resources.
