KGMU Spokesperson Confirms Drug Scam, Promises Strict Action

Lucknow, June 2: Dr. K.K. Singh, spokesperson for King George’s Medical University (KGMU), has confirmed the occurrence of a significant drug scam involving expensive medications intended for cancer patients. He stated that the administration is prepared to take stringent action against those involved.

In a conversation with a news agency in Lucknow, Dr. Singh acknowledged that negligence by some staff and consultants led to medications meant for patients being diverted outside the institution. Previously, the usage of medicines in one department ranged from ₹5 to ₹7 lakh monthly. However, this figure skyrocketed, raising suspicions.

The matter was brought to the attention of the Vice-Chancellor, who promptly formed a committee to investigate. Initial findings indicated irregularities, including the deaths of some patients and the misallocation of drugs that were never administered as intended.

Instead, these medications were sent elsewhere. The initial report has been submitted to the Vice-Chancellor, who plans to conduct a thorough investigation. Those found guilty will face consequences, and efforts will be made to recover the funds. KGMU is committed to taking all necessary actions within its authority.

Meanwhile, the political landscape surrounding the drug scam has intensified.

Samajwadi Party spokesperson Udayveer Singh criticized KGMU, claiming it has become a hub of negligence and corruption since 2017. He pointed out that the health minister is not taking the situation seriously, and BJP leaders have been causing disruptions at the institution. Singh argued that without proper development and accountability, expecting integrity from lower-level staff is unrealistic.

BJP MP Dinesh Sharma stated he was unaware of the details but emphasized that the medical college has accountable administration. He acknowledged previous complaints regarding the procurement of medications that should have been supplied through government channels. He assured that action has been taken against those responsible and expressed confidence in the government’s commitment to punishing any corruption that arises.
