TMC Faces Internal Crisis as Reju Dutta Warns of Potential Revolt

Kolkata, June 2: Reju Dutta, a suspended leader of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), has attributed the ongoing internal turmoil within the party to its senior leaders. He cautioned that if the party fails to stand by its workers, the workers will not support the party in return.

In an interview with a news agency, Dutta stated, “The party will merely become a poster. Only Didi (Mamata Banerjee), Abhishek Banerjee, and a handful of loyal old legislators will remain in the party in the coming days.”

He accused Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of refusing to link the signature forgery case to political vendetta, despite the deep discontent brewing within the party.

Regarding the expulsion of Ritabrata Banerjee and Sandipan Saha, Dutta revealed that both legislators had written to the Assembly Speaker claiming their signatures were forged. An investigation is currently underway based on this complaint.

Dutta further disclosed, “I have received news that around 50 TMC legislators met at a hotel under Ritabrata Banerjee’s leadership. They discussed over the phone and held another meeting in the evening. Soon, they will approach the Speaker to raise three key issues. First, we have a two-thirds majority, so we are the real Trinamool Congress. Second, the opposition leader should be Ritabrata Banerjee, not Shobhandeb Chattopadhyay. Lastly, we should retain our election symbol.”

He linked this situation to the division model of Shiv Sena in Maharashtra, stating, “The Shiv Sena model is currently being implemented in Bengal.”

Dutta also targeted Abhishek Banerjee, asserting that he must take responsibility. “Those whom he brought into the party have stabbed it in the back. Mamata Banerjee must also take responsibility,” he remarked.

According to Dutta, there is significant discontent towards Abhishek Banerjee throughout the party, which Mamata Banerjee has yet to comprehend. If these issues are not resolved promptly, a major revolt within the party could ensue.
