New Delhi, June 2: Former Indian all-rounder Stuart Binny made a significant mark in Team India with his medium-pace bowling and valuable batting skills. Following in the footsteps of his father, Roger Binny, Stuart carved out a niche for himself in the cricketing world. Fans will likely never forget his remarkable spell against Bangladesh in 2014, where he took six wickets for just four runs.
Born on June 3, 1984, in Bangalore, Stuart initially struggled to secure a place in the Karnataka team. However, while playing for the Hyderabad Heroes and India Eleven, he established himself as a prominent all-rounder.
After leaving the Indian Cricket League (ICL), Stuart returned to the Karnataka team and became a key player. The 2013-14 domestic season was particularly special for him, as he scored 443 runs at an average of 43.22 and took 14 wickets at an average of 32.64, playing a crucial role in Karnataka’s Ranji Trophy victory.
Stuart’s impressive domestic performance led to his international debut. In 2014, he made his One Day International (ODI) debut against New Zealand, followed by his Test debut against England in July of the same year.
In England’s first innings, Stuart did not take any wickets in his ten overs. However, in India’s second innings, he played a pivotal role in drawing the match, scoring 78 runs off 114 balls, including one six and eight fours.
Despite not making a significant impact in the next two matches of the series, Stuart was sidelined from the Test team for nearly a year. He was included in the playing XI for Test matches against Sri Lanka and South Africa but did not receive further opportunities. Although he was selected for the 2015 World Cup, he did not get a chance to play.
In his Test career, Stuart Binny scored 194 runs and took three wickets across six matches. In 14 ODIs, he accumulated 230 runs and claimed 20 wickets.
Stuart joined the Mumbai Indians for the 2009/10 IPL season. He then played for the Rajasthan Royals from 2011 to 2015. After stints with Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2016 and 2017, he returned to the Rajasthan Royals for the next two seasons. Over his IPL career, he played 95 matches, scoring 880 runs and taking 22 wickets.
In first-class cricket, Stuart has amassed 4,796 runs, including 11 centuries and 22 half-centuries, along with 148 wickets. In List A matches, he has scored 1,788 runs and taken 99 wickets.
