Malda, June 2: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken significant action in Malda district, West Bengal, regarding cases of road blockades and unlawful detention of judicial officials prior to the elections. The agency has filed charges against a total of 31 accused in four separate cases related to this matter. The charge sheet was submitted to the special NIA court located in Kolkata.
This case is linked to the SIR process, where it is alleged that certain individuals systematically obstructed government operations and attempted to disrupt public order. The accused face serious charges under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, 2023, the National Highways Act, 1956, and the West Bengal Maintenance of Public Order Act, 1972.
According to the investigation agency, these incidents emerged in April, ahead of the state assembly elections, when several areas in Malda experienced road blockades, preventing judicial officials from reaching their workplaces. These officials were unlawfully detained, hindering their duties.
The NIA’s investigation has included digital evidence, documentary records, and statements from multiple witnesses. Based on this evidence, the agency claims that the accused organized illegal assemblies and blocked public roads, thereby affecting administrative functions.
The investigation also revealed that the accused deliberately obstructed officials engaged in specific electoral tasks, causing serious disruptions to government operations. The agency stated that these activities not only impacted law and order but also disrupted constitutional and administrative processes.
It has also been reported that the NIA took over the investigation following directives from the Supreme Court and initiated a thorough inquiry due to the case’s severity.
The NIA has stated that the investigation is ongoing, and efforts are being made to locate other absconding accused involved in this conspiracy. The agency is also working to uncover the extent of the network behind this entire incident.
