Patna, March 12: The political landscape of Bihar is buzzing once again. Former Union Minister and ex-national president of Janata Dal (United), RCP Singh, has made significant remarks regarding Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s son, Nishant Kumar.
He stated that Nishant possesses political potential and has a bright future ahead. However, the decision to elevate him to the position of Chief Minister must be made collectively by Nitish Kumar and the leaders of the NDA.
RCP Singh welcomed Nishant’s entry into politics, emphasizing their long-standing relationship. He recalled that he blessed Nishant when he joined the party.
Singh asserted that if some believe Nishant is fit for the role of Deputy Chief Minister, then there should be no hesitation in considering him for the Chief Minister position. Yet, he clarified that the final decision rests with Nitish Kumar and the top NDA leaders.
He also mentioned that once a leader enters politics, their primary responsibility is to unite all factions. Managing diverse opinions within a party is a significant test of leadership.
Regarding Nishant’s induction into the party, Singh expressed that if Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had been present on the stage during Nishant’s joining ceremony on March 8, it would have sent a stronger message.
He noted that if Kumar had blessed Nishant on stage, it would have conveyed a positive sentiment among supporters. Singh highlighted that while touching feet is not inappropriate, it carries a unique symbolic significance in a political context.
RCP Singh emphasized that managing factionalism is a leader’s duty, and Nishant must also take on this responsibility. Uniting individuals with differing views is the true measure of leadership.
When asked about the possibility of rejoining Janata JD(U), Singh declined to comment. He also responded to discussions surrounding Nitish Kumar’s potential move to the Rajya Sabha, stating that it seems unlikely. Just three months ago, the NDA successfully contested the Bihar Assembly elections under Kumar’s leadership.
Singh pointed out that Nitish Kumar recently took the oath of office for the tenth time and remains actively engaged in reviewing development projects, making new announcements, and participating in the Assembly’s budget session. Thus, the speculation about his move to the Rajya Sabha raises questions.
He noted that these discussions are based on circumstances, and ultimately, the decision lies with Nitish Kumar, who cannot be pressured into a choice.
Singh also commented on the BJP’s role, stating that if the party wanted to appoint its Chief Minister in Bihar, it could have done so in 2020. At that time, JD(U) secured only 43 seats, while the BJP won around 74-75 seats.
He recalled that Nitish Kumar had previously stated that the BJP could appoint its Chief Minister if it wished. However, NDA leaders and Prime Minister Narendra Modi advised him to remain in office, leading to Kumar’s continued tenure.
Singh remarked that the BJP understands that the elections in Bihar were fought under Nitish Kumar’s leadership, and the public mandate largely favored him. Therefore, changing leadership is not a simple decision.
He concluded that if any changes occur in the future, it will be the NDA leaders’ responsibility to fulfill the public mandate. Nevertheless, he emphasized that Nishant must gain experience to advance in politics.
According to Singh, Bihar has around 46 ministries, and understanding such a vast administrative structure requires significant experience. While knowledge can be gained from books, true learning comes from taking on responsibilities and having opportunities to work.
