California Governor Appoints Indian-American to Structural Pest Control Board

Washington, May 15: California Governor Gavin Newsom has announced several appointments within state agencies. According to an official statement from the Governor’s office, Indian-American business executive Yogesh Yogi Chugh has been appointed to the Structural Pest Control Board.

Chugh, a resident of Fremont, has been serving as the Executive Managing Director at S5 Advisory since 2013. Previously, he held two positions at PlayStation, Sony Computer Entertainment Media Inc., from 1996 to 2012, including Senior Leadership in Customer Relationship Management Technologies from 2001 to 2012 and Consumer Services Leadership Management from 1996 to 2001.

The Governor’s office noted that Chugh was also a Business Services Manager at the Boston Consulting Group from 1993 to 1996. He is a member of the Asian American/Pacific Islander (AAPI) community and the Foundation for India and Diaspora Studies (FIIDS).

Chugh holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from California State University, San Jose, and a Bachelor of Science in Science from Delhi University. The statement indicated that Senate approval is not required for this appointment, with a salary set at $100 per day. Chugh is a Democrat. Along with his appointment, Newsom announced several other senior positions within California’s housing, finance, and data agencies.

Additionally, the announcement included Subbaraw Mupparaju from Sacramento, who has been appointed as the Director of California’s Financial Information System, also known as FISCal. The statement mentioned that Mupparaju has been the Chief Deputy Director of California’s Financial Information System since 2023. He previously served as Chief Information Officer at the California Department of Housing and Community Development from 2021 to 2022 and held the same role at California’s Financial Information System from 2015 to 2021.

Before joining the California government, Mupparaju worked as Chief Technologist at HP Enterprise Services from 2008 to 2012 and was an Executive Information Technology Architect at IBM from 1996 to 2008. According to the statement, Mupparaju was a Senior Systems Analyst at Tata Consultancy Services from 1992 to 1996. He earned a Master of Science degree in Engineering from PSG College of Technology.

California has the largest Indian-American population in the United States, particularly in the San Francisco Bay Area and Silicon Valley, where Indian professionals significantly influence technology, business, and public affairs. Indian-Americans are increasingly taking roles in state commissions, advisory boards, and public institutions across California.
