New Delhi, May 15: The Congress party has launched a strong attack on the central government following a hike in petrol, diesel, and CNG prices across the country. They claim that the government has begun its collection efforts now that the elections are over. Party leaders have warned that rising fuel prices will inevitably lead to increased inflation.
Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh took to the social media platform ‘X’ on Friday, stating, “For years, when international oil prices were low or declining, the Indian National Congress consistently demanded that the benefits be passed on to Indian consumers through reduced domestic prices for gas, petrol, and diesel. However, this did not happen, and consumers were exploited.”
He further added, “Now, with rising international oil prices due to conflicts instigated by the Prime Minister’s close friends in the U.S. and Israel in West Asia, and with assembly elections concluded, the government has raised commercial LPG prices first, followed by petrol and diesel. This will certainly lead to increased inflation, which is now projected to reach nearly 6 percent this fiscal year. Growth rate estimates will also be significantly lowered.”
Additionally, the Congress party posted on their official ‘X’ handle, “Inflation Man Modi has once again struck the public. Petrol and diesel prices have been increased by ₹3 each, while CNG prices have risen by ₹2. Elections are over—collection begins.”
It is noteworthy that petrol and diesel prices have increased by more than ₹3 across the country, with CNG prices rising by ₹2. According to the new rates, petrol in New Delhi has gone up by ₹3.14 per liter to ₹97.77, while diesel has increased by ₹3.11 to ₹90.67 per liter. The new CNG rate in Delhi is now ₹79.09 per kilogram.
