Severe Heatwave Expected in NCR, Temperatures to Exceed 43 Degrees Celsius

Noida, May 15: Residents of the National Capital Region (NCR) are bracing for another bout of extreme heat in the coming days. According to the latest forecast from the Indian Meteorological Department, temperatures are set to rise rapidly over the next three to four days, with maximums potentially reaching 43 degrees Celsius.

The weather department has indicated that starting from May 15, residents can expect intense sunlight, hot winds, and strong surface winds. Additionally, the Air Quality Index (AQI) is on the rise, leading to a dual challenge of heat and pollution for the populace.

On May 15, the maximum temperature in NCR is expected to be around 41 degrees Celsius, with a minimum of 24 degrees Celsius. The sky will be partially cloudy, and there is a possibility of light rain accompanied by thunder in some areas. In the morning, winds may blow at speeds of 30 to 40 kilometers per hour, with gusts reaching up to 50 kilometers per hour.

The weather is expected to remain clear on May 16, with temperatures again hitting a maximum of 41 degrees and a minimum of 25 degrees Celsius. On May 17, strong surface winds are predicted to persist throughout the day, maintaining the same temperature range. The heat will intensify further on May 18, with maximums potentially soaring to 43 degrees and minimums at 27 degrees Celsius. Relief from the heat is unlikely on May 19, with temperatures expected to remain high at 42 degrees maximum and 28 degrees minimum.

On May 20, temperatures are again forecasted to reach a maximum of 42 degrees and a minimum of 27 degrees Celsius. The continuous rise in temperature raises concerns about heatwave conditions during the afternoon. Meanwhile, air pollution levels in NCR are gradually deteriorating. Several areas in Delhi recorded AQI levels between 150 and 185.

Specific readings include an AQI of 185 at Burari Crossing, 175 in Ashok Vihar, 166 in Bawana, 163 in Alipur, and 159 in Aya Nagar. In Ghaziabad, the situation is even worse, with AQI levels of 288 in Loni and 257 in Ved Vihar-Loni, both falling into the poor category. Other areas like Vasundhara, Indirapuram, and Sanjay Nagar recorded AQIs of 189, 188, and 184, respectively.

Experts suggest that the increasing temperatures and slow wind speeds allow dust and pollutants to linger longer in the atmosphere, contributing to the rise in AQI levels. Health professionals advise children, the elderly, and those with respiratory issues to avoid going outside during the afternoon. Residents are encouraged to stay hydrated, wear light clothing, and protect themselves from direct sunlight.
