Bhopal, May 15: In the capital of Madhya Pradesh, Bhopal, police have implemented strict security measures in the Gautam Nagar area. This comes in response to an attack on a young Muslim man, which has heightened tensions in the region. To prevent any disturbances ahead of Friday prayers, security has been intensified.
Authorities have deployed additional police forces in crowded areas and enforced Section 144, which prohibits gatherings. There is heightened surveillance around major mosques, including Taj-ul-Masjid, Jama Masjid, and Moti Masjid, with separate security arrangements at each entrance. Police presence has also been increased outside Peer Gate Mosque, Kulsum Bia Mosque in Budhwara, and other parts of the city.
Friday prayers are scheduled to take place between 12:40 PM and 2:45 PM. Bhopal’s Police Commissioner Sanjay Kumar stated that police forces are on high alert. He warned, “If crowds gather, police will take strict action. Any individual disrupting peace will face severe consequences.”
Commissioner Kumar also mentioned that additional forces will be deployed alongside district police. The police will monitor social media closely. He urged all citizens of Bhopal to maintain peace and not to trust unverified information circulating online.
The attack on a young man named Arif Khan occurred on May 10. It led to protests and stone-pelting incidents in some parts of the city. According to police reports, Arif Khan was allegedly assaulted by members of a Hindu organization at a hotel in Bhopal.
He was beaten, stripped of his clothes, and had ink and cow dung smeared on his face before being handed over to the police. This incident has sparked significant anger within the Muslim community, resulting in protests in several areas of the old city since Tuesday.
