Dharamshala, May 15: In a gripping encounter during IPL 2026, the Punjab Kings (PBKS) faced a disappointing 6-wicket defeat against the Mumbai Indians (MI). This marked their fifth consecutive loss, leaving captain Shreyas Iyer visibly disheartened. He expressed that coming to terms with this defeat is quite challenging.
Despite the loss, Iyer praised his team’s spirited performance, calling it a remarkable match of cricket. He stated, “Clearly, it’s tough to digest this loss, but I don’t want to point fingers in any situation because it was a fantastic game of cricket. It was an excellent match. Tilak (Verma) played exceptionally well. He chose his shots wisely and understood the field brilliantly. He deserves credit for that.”
Ajmatullah Omarzai showcased his talent with a stunning innings of 38 runs off just 17 balls in the final overs. Iyer commended Omarzai’s explosive batting, saying, “Absolutely, at one point, we were looking at a score around 170 to 180, and from there, Omarzai shifted the momentum in our favor. He hit some tremendous sixes, and thanks to his batting, we managed to gain rhythm and reach a total of 200.”
To secure a playoff spot, the Punjab Kings must win their remaining two matches. Looking ahead to their next game against RCB, Iyer said, “I’m definitely excited for the next match. It will be a day game, and we need to win both remaining matches. The next two games are going to be fantastic, and I’m eagerly looking forward to playing them.”
Batting first at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, the Punjab Kings scored 200 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in their 20 overs.
