PM Modi Embarks on UAE Visit to Strengthen Bilateral Ties

New Delhi, May 15: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi departed for Abu Dhabi on Friday. His official visit to the United Arab Emirates aims to enhance the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two nations.

During this trip, PM Modi will engage in discussions with UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on key areas of cooperation, including trade, investment, energy security, and people-to-people relations. This visit is expected to deepen the strategic and economic ties between India and the UAE, which is one of India’s key partners in the Gulf region.

The Ministry of External Affairs stated, “This visit will promote significant trade and investment engagement between the two countries.” According to official sources, energy security will be a focal point during PM Modi’s visit, with two crucial MOUs anticipated in the areas of LPG and strategic petroleum reserves.

The Ministry noted that over the past 25 years, the UAE has been India’s third-largest trading partner and the seventh-largest source of overall investment. With more than 4.5 million Indians residing in the UAE, this visit also presents an opportunity to discuss their welfare.

In a media briefing, Secretary (West) in the Ministry of External Affairs, Siby George, mentioned that during the second part of his trip, the Prime Minister will visit the Netherlands. This will be his second visit to the Netherlands since 2017. During this leg of the journey, he will meet King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima, and hold talks with Prime Minister Mark Rutte.

In the third phase, PM Modi will travel to Gothenburg, Sweden, where he will converse with his Swedish counterpart, Ulf Kristersson, to review all aspects of bilateral relations and explore new avenues for enhancing trade between the two countries.

Both Prime Ministers will also address the European Round Table for Industry, a major forum for pan-European business leaders, alongside Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission.

George further stated that in the fourth part of his journey, the Prime Minister will arrive in Norway on Monday for the third India-Nordic Summit and bilateral meetings.

Finally, PM Modi will conclude his tour in Italy on Tuesday, where he is scheduled to meet President Sergio Mattarella and engage in discussions with Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
