Mumbai, May 15: Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister, Eknath Shinde, expressed deep sorrow over the passing of senior psychiatrist Dr. Anand Nadkarni. He stated that losing Nadkarni is akin to losing an extraordinary psychiatrist, writer, poet, playwright, actor, musician, tabla player, painter, social worker, and an active practitioner of philosophy.
In a post on his social media account, Shinde remarked, “The news of senior psychiatrist Dr. Anand Nadkarni’s demise is extremely shocking. Dr. Nadkarni, rich in boundless energy and a cheerful personality, was a beloved son of Thane.”
Shinde highlighted Nadkarni’s relentless efforts in the field of psychiatry over the past three and a half decades. Embracing the ideal of “A Healthy Mind for Everyone,” he founded the Institute for Psychology. By providing stability to thousands of troubled minds, he became a true friend to their families. Along with the late Dr. Sunanda Avachat, he also established a de-addiction center named Muktaangan in Pune. The services rendered by these institutions exemplify how any voluntary organization should operate.
Shinde noted, “Despite being fully dedicated to psychiatry, the writer and playwright within him, active since his college days, remained vibrant. His published works, including ‘Gadde Panchvishi,’ ‘Vaidyak Satta,’ ‘Shahanyancha Psychiatrist,’ and ‘Man Maitrichya Pradeshat,’ totaling around 27, are highly appreciated by readers and inspire contemplation. In the world of theater, plays like ‘Janm Rahasya,’ ‘Tya Tighanchi Gosht,’ and ‘Rang Majha Vegla’ have also won the hearts of audiences.”
He concluded, “With Dr. Nadkarni’s passing, we have lost an exceptional psychiatrist, writer, poet, playwright, actor, musician, tabla player, painter, social worker, and an active practitioner of philosophy—a multifaceted personality. I pay my heartfelt tribute to him.”
