Rajasthan Tourism Roadshow Held in Beijing to Attract Chinese Visitors

Beijing, May 26: Rajasthan, one of India’s most beautiful states, is renowned for its forts, palaces, and vibrant culture. Millions of tourists visit each year. However, the number of Chinese tourists traveling to Rajasthan remains low compared to other countries. To address this, a Rajasthan Tourism Roadshow was organized in China to promote tourism.

On Monday, the event took place at the Indian Embassy in Beijing, attracting a large audience, including Chinese influencers, officials from the Indian Embassy, and representatives from the Rajasthan government.

Often referred to as India’s cultural capital, Rajasthan welcomed a total of 254 million tourists last year, including 1.95 million foreign visitors. However, the number of Chinese tourists has been notably low, especially following the COVID-19 pandemic. In contrast, Chinese tourists frequently travel to other countries. To boost tourism, the Rajasthan government has sent a delegation to China to conduct tourism shows in Beijing and Shanghai.

During the show, attendees learned about various tourist attractions in Rajasthan. For instance, Jaipur, known as the Pink City, is famous for its stunning Hawa Mahal and Amer Fort. Udaipur, dubbed the City of Lakes, captivates visitors with its Floating Water Palace and City Palace. The Golden City of Jaisalmer features the impressive Jaisalmer Fort, while Jodhpur boasts the majestic Mehrangarh Fort and the Umaid Bhawan Palace.

Additionally, Ranthambore National Park in Sawai Madhopur spans 400 square kilometers, showcasing Rajasthan’s wildlife and natural beauty. The famous Thar Desert, located on the western edge of the Aravalli mountain range, is also the largest desert area in India. Tourists visiting Rajasthan are never disappointed, as the state offers a variety of attractions and experiences.

During the event, Rukmani Riyar, Commissioner of the Rajasthan Tourism Department, invited Chinese tourists to explore the state’s rich historical and cultural heritage. She emphasized that Rajasthan has something for everyone, and it is increasingly popular among young people. Many Hollywood and Bollywood celebrities host weddings and parties in Rajasthan, further highlighting its beauty. The Palace on Wheels, a luxury train, also offers tours of key tourist destinations across Rajasthan.

Minister Shweta Singh spoke at the embassy, stating that tourism between India and China represents more than just travel; it symbolizes a fusion of cultures and civilizations. She mentioned that efforts are underway to enhance relations with China, with tourism being a significant aspect. She also referenced the saying “Atithi Devo Bhava,” meaning “The guest is God.”

It is well-known that Buddhism originated in India and spread to China, with many of its heritage sites found around Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. However, few are aware that Rajasthan also has deep-rooted connections to Buddhism. Key heritage sites exist in Jaipur, Jhalawar, and Chittorgarh, appearing as ancient monasteries, stupas, and caves. Thus, there is significant potential for Buddhist and religious tourism in Rajasthan.

Rajasthan’s famous traditional slogan, “Padharo Mharo Des,” meaning “Welcome to my land,” reflects the state’s hospitality. The recent event in Beijing successfully conveyed this message to Chinese tourists.
