
Beijing, May 23: Amid ongoing tensions between Iran and the United States, Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has arrived in China for a four-day visit. According to the Prime Minister’s Office, he was welcomed at Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport by Xu Wenguang, the Vice Governor of Zhejiang Province. The primary aim of this visit is to advance cooperation under Phase 2 of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
During his visit, the Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan, Jiang Zaidong, and the Pakistani envoy to Islamabad, Khalil Hashmi, were also present. Prime Minister Sharif’s trip will continue until May 26.
Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar shared details about the visit on the social media platform X, stating that Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Information and Broadcasting Minister Attaullah Tarar, IT Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja, and Special Assistant Tariq Fatemi will accompany the Prime Minister.
The Prime Minister will meet with the Party Secretary of Zhejiang Province in Hangzhou. He is set to participate in a business forum aimed at promoting collaboration between Pakistani and Chinese companies under CPEC Phase 2. During this event, agreements and MOUs will be exchanged between the two nations.
In Beijing, Prime Minister Sharif will meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang. He will also attend a reception hosted by the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Pakistan-China diplomatic relations.
This visit is expected to add new dimensions to Pakistan-China relations, particularly in enhancing cooperation between Pakistani and Chinese companies under CPEC Phase 2.
The Pakistani Foreign Ministry stated, “Both sides will review bilateral cooperation in the political, economic, and strategic domains, focusing on high-level development of CPEC, trade, investment, industrial cooperation, modernization of agriculture, information technology, science and technology, and people-to-people exchanges.” The Prime Minister will kick off his tour in Hangzhou, where he will chair the Pakistan-China B2B Investment Conference.
