Jagan Mohan Reddy Accuses Chandrababu Naidu of Ignoring Sugali Preethi Case

Amaravati, May 27: Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has accused current Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu of neglecting the Sugali Preethi case, involving the rape and murder of a tenth-grade student in Kurnool in 2017.

Reddy, the president of the YSR Congress Party, stated that the negligence of Naidu’s government has caused immense suffering to Preethi’s parents. The brutal murder of Sugali Preethi, a tenth-grade student, went unpunished as Naidu’s administration failed to identify and penalize the culprits.

“After our government took office, we formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) at the request of her parents and advanced the investigation. We supported the family by providing them with a plot of land to build a house, five acres of agricultural land, and a government job to compensate for their loss. Additionally, we ordered a CBI investigation into the case at the family’s request,” Reddy explained.

He further criticized Naidu, claiming that upon his return to power, the case was once again sidelined and neglected. With the CBI now asserting that it lacks sufficient staff and resources to continue the investigation effectively, Reddy emphasized that it is the state government’s responsibility to provide full cooperation to ensure justice is served. Instead, he noted, the government has remained completely silent.

Reddy expressed his distress upon learning that Sugali Preethi’s parents had their pension halted simply for speaking out against the government’s inaction.

“They showed me the SIT reports, CDFD laboratory reports, and details of DNA profiling collected during the investigation. With such solid evidence and scientific reports already available, isn’t it unjust for the state government to remain a passive observer and ensure the investigation reaches its logical conclusion?” he questioned.

When he met with the grieving parents, he assured them that they would stand by them until justice is served. Reddy stated that the YSRCP would provide full legal support to the family until Sugali Preethi receives justice.

Sugali Preethi’s parents, Parvati and Raju Naik, met with Reddy at the YSRCP central office in Tadepalli, appealing for justice in their daughter’s rape and murder case. They expressed deep anguish, stating that nine years have passed without justice, and the coalition government led by Naidu has completely ignored the case.
