BJP Legislators Demand CBI Investigation into Sabarimala Gold Scam

Thiruvananthapuram, May 26: BJP legislators in Kerala have intensified their demand for a CBI investigation into the Sabarimala gold scam. On Tuesday, they wrote to Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan, urging an immediate inquiry and the unconditional withdrawal of all cases against devotees involved in the Sabarimala movement.

BJP legislator V. Muraleedharan accused Satheesan of hypocrisy, stating that when he was the opposition leader, he himself called for a CBI probe into the matter. Despite two cabinet meetings under the new government, no announcement regarding the investigation has been made. Muraleedharan emphasized that the delay in the CBI inquiry is unacceptable.

The BJP leaders are also calling for a thorough investigation into the conspiracy behind the scam. They insist that the roles of former Devaswom Board presidents and senior officials must be scrutinized. Additionally, they demand an inquiry into allegations against two former Devaswom ministers.

Muraleedharan mentioned that the investigation should also look into the alleged connections of the main accused, Unnikrishnan Potty, with various individuals, including Congress leader Sonia Gandhi. He highlighted the need to investigate the international connections previously raised by the High Court.

This demand was articulated in a joint letter from BJP legislators Rajeev Chandrasekhar, V. Muraleedharan, and B.B. Gopakumar. The BJP leaders are also advocating for the withdrawal of cases against devotees who participated in the protests against the entry of menstruating women into the Sabarimala temple. The letter claims that a total of 29,119 individuals were accused in 2,624 cases related to this movement.

The government is only considering the withdrawal of 1,047 non-serious cases, but BJP legislators argue that this classification of serious and non-serious cases is politically motivated. They assert that thousands of Ayyappa devotees and youth without any criminal background are still forced to navigate the court system.

BJP leaders warned that if all cases are not unconditionally withdrawn, the public will perceive the promises made by Congress over the past eight years as mere political rhetoric.
