Ladakhs Lieutenant Governor Meets Activist Sonam Wangchuk to Foster Development and Dialogue

Mumbai, May 26: The Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Vinay Kumar Saxena, met with social activist Sonam Wangchuk and Geetanjali Angmo on Tuesday. The details of this meeting were shared by the Lieutenant Governor on the social media platform X.

During the meeting, Saxena emphasized the importance of maintaining a positive environment for both development initiatives and political dialogue in Ladakh. He cautioned against misleading or inflammatory statements, as they can disrupt public discourse and create unnecessary tension in society.

Saxena advised Wangchuk that democratic expression should not equate to spreading false or misleading information. He stressed that statements made on public platforms should be responsible. According to the Lieutenant Governor, Wangchuk acknowledged that comparing the situation in Ladakh to that of Manipur was a mistake on his part.

The meeting also addressed the recently discussed ‘Cockroach Party.’ Saxena noted that Wangchuk clarified he was unaware of the organization’s origins and objectives. He stated that Wangchuk would study the founders and their intentions and reconsider his stance if necessary.

Furthermore, Saxena highlighted that the central government has initiated several positive development projects in Ladakh, which are visibly impacting the region’s growth. Continuous rallies and protests could adversely affect economic activities in the tourism sector, which is vital for Ladakh’s economy.

He reiterated the necessity of protecting tourism from any negative influences. During the meeting, Wangchuk also praised various recent development initiatives launched by the central government, including the ‘Him Sarovar’ project, the restoration of the ‘Igu Fe Nahar,’ the construction of the ‘Mahe-Topko Nahar,’ and a large-scale tree plantation campaign.

This meeting is viewed as a positive step towards development, dialogue, and social coordination in Ladakh.
