
Beijing, May 23: A gas explosion occurred on the evening of May 22 at a coal mine in the Qinyuan County of Changzhi City, Shanxi Province, China, resulting in significant loss of life and property.
In the aftermath of the incident, Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China, President, and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, emphasized the need for urgent attention and issued critical orders. He stated that efforts must be made to treat the injured and conduct rescue operations scientifically while managing the situation effectively. Xi also called for a thorough investigation into the cause of the accident and mandated accountability in accordance with the law.
He stressed that various sectors and departments should learn from this tragedy and conduct risk assessments to prevent serious accidents, especially during the ongoing flood season. Proper flood prevention and disaster relief measures must be implemented to ensure the safety of the public.
Additionally, Chinese Premier Li Qiang ordered the search for trapped individuals, the treatment of the injured, timely information dissemination, and accountability in response to the disaster.
