New Delhi, June 1: Leaders of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) have strongly criticized the actions of the Punjab police. This response comes after police conducted a raid at the residence of senior party leader Bikram Singh Majithia in Amritsar. Party officials allege that this operation is politically motivated and part of a broader effort to target opposition leaders.
The raid followed a dispute and unrest at a local police station, prompting the Punjab police to act at Majithia’s Green Avenue home in Amritsar.
Following the altercation, Amritsar police have filed a case against Bikram Singh Majithia and several SAD activists. An FIR has been registered, and an investigation is underway.
To locate the named accused, the police have formed 12 special teams and launched joint search operations at various locations. As part of this initiative, they raided Majithia’s home early in the morning.
In response to the incident, SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal accused the ruling party of acting out of political vendetta against the senior Akali leader. He stated that this is an attempt to target opposition figures. Badal claimed that the government is specifically aiming at Majithia, noting that despite several attempts to undermine him during elections, he emerged victorious. He asserted that there is now a concerted effort to entangle him in legal issues, labeling it a deliberate political conspiracy by the Punjab government.
SAD MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal also questioned the police’s actions. She alleged that there have been numerous irregularities in the investigation and that the police are not operating impartially.
Harsimrat Kaur Badal claimed that an individual was previously released from the police station without any action. She further alleged that this person was held illegally at the SHO’s residence without a warrant or FIR. After securing the release of this individual, the police proceeded to file an FIR against Bikram Singh Majithia. She has called for a fair investigation into the entire incident.
