President Expresses Condolences on the Passing of Renowned Singer Suman Kalyanpur

Mumbai, June 1: The celebrated Indian singer Suman Kalyanpur passed away on Sunday at her residence in Mumbai. President Droupadi Murmu expressed her sorrow over the loss.

In a post on the social media platform X, President Murmu stated that Suman Kalyanpur’s demise is an irreplaceable loss for the Indian arts community. She captivated audiences with her melodious singing in Hindi, Marathi, and various other Indian languages. From classical music to popular songs, Kalyanpur’s contributions were extensive and impactful. She received numerous prestigious awards, including the Padma Bhushan. The President extended her heartfelt condolences to Kalyanpur’s family and countless fans.

Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also conveyed his condolences regarding her passing. Sharing a photograph with the singer, he wrote, “I am deeply saddened to hear about the demise of the renowned singer Suman Kalyanpur. Her sweet voice and emotive singing enriched the Indian music and cultural landscape.”

The Prime Minister added, “Through her songs, she carved a special place in the hearts of music lovers and fans of Indian cinema. My deepest sympathies are with her family, well-wishers, and fans. May God grant peace to her soul. Om Shanti.”

Suman Kalyanpur was one of the iconic singers of the Indian music industry, making a significant mark during the golden era of Indian cinema. She immortalized several evergreen songs with her voice, establishing a unique identity in the hearts of music lovers. Her sweet voice and deep melodies placed her among the most respected female vocalists in Indian film music.

Popular songs like ‘Aajkal Tere Mere Pyar Ke Charchay’, ‘Na Na Karte Pyar Tumhi Se Kar Baithe’, and ‘Tumne Pukara Aur Hum Chale Aaye’ are part of her illustrious repertoire. Kalyanpur began her career with the Marathi film ‘Pasant Ahe Mulgi’, and her first superhit Marathi song is considered to be ‘Bhatuklichya Khalmandila’. The 1960s and 1970s were the golden years of her career. During the rift between Lata Mangeshkar and Mohammad Rafi, Suman Kalyanpur sang over 140 popular duets with Rafi.
