
Bengaluru, June 1: D.K. Shivakumar, who is set to become Karnataka’s 24th Chief Minister, congratulated the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) for winning the championship for the second consecutive time. However, he expressed disappointment that the IPL 2026 final was not held in Bengaluru, stating that it was an injustice to the local fans.
Speaking to reporters, Shivakumar said, “The IPL final was supposed to take place in Bengaluru, but that did not happen. This is an injustice to us. We are making every effort to ensure that this does not occur again. I congratulate my team on becoming champions on behalf of Karnataka.”
RCB delivered an impressive performance in the IPL 2026 final, held at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad. They successfully defended their title by defeating the Gujarat Titans (GT) by five wickets. Led by Rajat Patidar, RCB’s bowlers excelled, restricting GT to just 155 runs for the loss of eight wickets in their 20 overs. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Rasikh Salam were instrumental in the bowling attack.
Bhuvneshwar took two wickets, while Rasikh claimed three. For GT, Washington Sundar was the top scorer with an unbeaten 50 runs off 37 balls, including five fours. However, Sai Sudharsan (12), Shubman Gill (10), and Jos Buttler (19) failed to make significant contributions.
RCB chased down the target of 156 runs in just 18 overs, losing five wickets. Virat Kohli was in exceptional form, scoring the fastest fifty of his IPL career with an unbeaten 75 runs off 42 balls. Venkatesh Iyer also contributed with 32 runs off 16 balls. RCB became the third team in IPL history to defend their title successfully. Kohli was awarded the Man of the Match for his outstanding performance.
