New Delhi, June 1: Maruti Suzuki India, the country’s largest car manufacturer, announced on Monday that it achieved its highest-ever monthly sales in May, reaching 242,688 vehicles. This figure surpasses the previous record set in April.

The company reported domestic sales of 193,535 units in May, marking a nearly 39% rise from 138,690 units sold in the same month last year.
In terms of exports, the company shipped 41,914 units in May, while supplying 7,239 vehicles to other original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).
The passenger vehicle segment, which includes hatchbacks, sedans, vans, and utility vehicles, contributed significantly to this sales growth. A total of 190,337 vehicles were sold in this category, up from 135,962 units during the same period last year.
Sales of utility vehicles such as Brezza, Fronx, Jimny, Grand Vitara, Victoris, Ertiga, XL6, and Invicto surged by 44.4%, reaching 79,267 units compared to 54,899 units last year.
Additionally, sales of the Alto and S-Presso models more than doubled, totaling 16,275 units.
In May 2026, the company’s exports rose to 41,914 units, up from 31,219 units in May 2025.
Sales of commercial vehicle models also increased to 3,198 units, compared to 2,728 units last year.
In April, Maruti Suzuki recorded total sales of 239,646 vehicles, which is a 33.29% increase from 179,791 vehicles sold the previous year. Domestic sales in April also reached a record 191,122 units, surpassing last year’s 142,053 units and breaking the previous record of 182,165 units set in December 2025.
The company has previously stated its goal to increase the share of vehicles transported by rail to 35% by the fiscal year 2030-31. To achieve this, Maruti Suzuki plans to establish in-plant railway sidings at its upcoming Kharkhoda manufacturing units. This initiative is expected to reduce carbon emissions, save fuel, and alleviate road traffic congestion.
In May, Maruti Suzuki announced a price hike of up to ₹30,000 for various models, effective June 2026. The decision was attributed to the continuous rise in raw material and operational costs in the automotive industry.
