Political Drama Unfolds in West Bengal: BJP Denies Involvement in Attack on Abhishek Banerjee

New Delhi, June 1: The political landscape in West Bengal is heating up following the attack on TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee. Former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has accused the BJP of orchestrating the incident. However, BJP MP Khagen Murmu has countered these claims, labeling the situation as a political drama and asserting that the BJP does not support any form of political violence.

Murmu emphasized that the BJP has never engaged in violent politics. He stated that the party’s West Bengal unit has made it clear that political violence is unacceptable, regardless of the circumstances. Any party worker found involved in violence should face legal consequences.

He claimed that the incident involving Abhishek Banerjee had no connection to the BJP. Many of those who protested or threw eggs were linked to the TMC. Murmu noted a growing public anger against the TMC in West Bengal, which is now becoming evident.

Murmu also recounted an attack he faced on October 6, 2025, when TMC supporters assaulted him and MLA Shankar Ghosh. He described being pushed and having stones thrown at his vehicle, resulting in serious injuries and significant blood loss. He criticized the police for their lack of effective intervention during that incident.

He mentioned that when Mamata Banerjee visited him afterward, she overlooked the severity of his injuries. Murmu accused the government and administration of failing to take the attack seriously.

According to Murmu, the TMC is steadily losing strength, with only the political presence of Mamata and Abhishek Banerjee remaining. He claimed that many have left the TMC, and public trust in the party is waning.

He also leveled corruption allegations against both Abhishek and Mamata Banerjee, stating that the public is now vocally opposing leaders they hold responsible for corruption and violations of their rights. He linked the recent incident in Sonarpur to this public outrage.

Murmu reiterated that the BJP has a clear directive: no party worker should engage in violence. If anyone does, they will face organizational and legal action.

He accused the TMC of attempting to tarnish the BJP’s image and create unrest. The BJP and central agencies are operating under the law, continuing actions against corruption, infiltration, and other issues.

Murmu noted that the political violence and lawlessness that once characterized West Bengal are changing. He referenced statements from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, affirming that actions against those involved in corruption and illegal activities will persist.

He also criticized opposition leaders rallying in support of the India Bloc and Abhishek Banerjee, suggesting they are only showing unity to protect their political interests. He concluded that the public is observing and understanding the situation, ready to make democratic decisions.
