Doha, June 1: Qatar has strongly condemned the intrusion of Israeli extremists into the Al-Aqsa Mosque on Monday. The country described the incident as “a blatant violation of international law and an unacceptable act that provokes the sentiments of millions of Muslims worldwide.”
Qatar emphasized that the Al-Aqsa Mosque is a place of worship for Muslims. It stated that any unilateral actions aimed at altering the historical and legal status of Jerusalem and its holy sites are invalid under international law.
In a statement, the Qatari Foreign Ministry condemned the provocative activities carried out under the protection of the occupying forces. It labeled these actions as a clear violation of international law and an unacceptable affront to the feelings of millions of Muslims. The ministry warned that such violations and recurring provocations could escalate violence and tension in the region, undermining efforts for peace and stability.
The statement read, “The ministry warns that these violations and ongoing provocations could lead to increased violence and tension in the region, weakening the prospects for de-escalation and stability.”
Qatar also appealed to the international community to take immediate action. It urged Israel, as an occupying power, to halt ongoing violations against the Palestinian people and their holy sites, and to comply with relevant international resolutions.
The ministry reiterated Qatar’s firm support for the Palestinian cause and the Palestinian people. Qatar believes that the occupation must end and that Palestinians should receive their legitimate rights, including the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
This statement follows an incident where several Israeli settlers waved Israeli flags and sang the national anthem under police protection on the steps leading to the ‘Dome of the Rock.’
According to reports from Arab News, these individuals entered the mosque complex through the ‘Al-Maghariba Gate,’ which is entirely under Israeli control.
The report noted that since the occupation of East Jerusalem in June 1967, there have been frequent clashes at the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, including raids by Israeli settlers and restrictions imposed on Muslim worshippers.
The administration of the mosque complex falls under Jordan’s Awqaf Ministry, which has the legal authority over the management and access control of the area. Jordan has also warned against any actions aimed at implementing a new arrangement that divides this historic site based on time and territory.
