Arrest Threat Looms Over Akali Dal Leader Majithia as Punjab Police Conduct Raids

Amritsar, June 1: The threat of arrest hangs over senior Akali Dal leader Bikramjit Singh Majithia in connection with an alleged attack on the Majitha police station. On Monday morning, Punjab police launched raids at various locations in search of Majithia, but he was not found.

A police team arrived at Majithia’s residence on Green Avenue in Amritsar. Upon learning of the police presence, a large number of Akali Dal workers gathered at the scene, leading to a tense standoff between police officials and party members.

Amritsar’s SP (Rural) Aditya Warrior stated that the police were there to arrest those against whom cases have been filed. The police presence was necessary to maintain law and order.

Punjab police also conducted searches at six other locations linked to Majithia’s associates in Chandigarh and Amritsar. Ongoing search operations are being carried out in multiple areas, including Amritsar and Chandigarh.

This incident is related to the alleged forcible release of an individual from police custody. It is claimed that, under Majithia’s leadership, a group attempted to storm the Majitha police station on Sunday to free a person in police detention.

The police have filed a case against Majithia and several others, with FIR number 91 registered. Currently, Punjab police have formed 12 teams to pursue the arrest of the accused, conducting continuous raids.

Notably, Bikram Singh Majithia, a leader of the Akali Dal and former minister, has faced arrest previously. Last year, he was detained by Punjab’s Vigilance Bureau for a case involving disproportionate assets. However, he was released on bail after obtaining a Supreme Court order.
