PM Svanidhi Scheme Transforms Small Businesses, Empowering Street Vendors

New Delhi, June 1: The Prime Minister Street Vendors Atmanirbhar Nidhi (PM Svanidhi) scheme has completed six years, showcasing success stories from millions of street vendors and small business owners across the country. This initiative has not only provided financial assistance but has also played a crucial role in empowering small traders and guiding their businesses in new directions.

Rajesh Kumar, a resident of Faridabad, exemplifies this transformation. For years, he struggled to support his family by selling chole-bhature from a cart, facing limited resources and financial hardships. Rising inflation and business challenges made it difficult for him to grow his enterprise. During this tough time, the PM Svanidhi scheme emerged as a beacon of hope.

The loans provided under the scheme helped him manage and expand his business. Additionally, through webinars organized by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), he gained vital knowledge about food safety, hygiene, and quality service. He adopted good practices such as cleanliness, personal hygiene, and the use of safe food materials, which increased customer trust.

Rajesh shared, “Before adopting the scheme, my business was quite weak, and our financial situation was poor. Repaying loans taken from the market was challenging. Under the PM Svanidhi scheme, I received an initial loan of ₹10,000 and later ₹20,000, which improved my business and increased my income. This scheme not only provided financial support but also offered me the opportunity to move forward with confidence and dignity.”

Similarly, Gopal Prasad Barman from Ranchi has an inspiring story. He previously managed a small tea stall to support his family. With limited income, managing household expenses was tough, and he lacked sufficient capital to expand his business. Upon learning about the PM Svanidhi scheme, he seized the opportunity.

With the first loan received under the scheme, he purchased a larger stove, additional utensils, and other necessary items. He then expanded his offerings to include snacks alongside tea. Through hard work and regular savings, he repaid the loan within the stipulated time and advanced his business.

Gopal stated, “Street vendors face numerous challenges, such as weather conditions and market fluctuations. Rain, heat, and cold directly impact their earnings. Nevertheless, with the help of the PM Svanidhi scheme, my financial situation has improved, and I am now living a better life than before.”
