Durgapur, June 1: Police in Durgapur, West Bengal, have arrested a 47-year-old man from Dumka, Jharkhand, under the POCSO Act. He faces serious allegations of sexually abusing his own 15-year-old daughter. The case was registered at the New Township police station in Durgapur following a complaint from the accused’s wife, who is also the victim’s mother.
According to police sources, the accused has been employed at a reputable company for the past 12 years and had recently transferred to Dumka as a manager about four months ago. The minor victim has been experiencing severe mental stress and depression for nearly a year. Initially, she received treatment at Durgapur Mission Hospital, but her condition did not improve. In April, her parents took her to Vellore, Tamil Nadu, for further treatment. During medical consultations and counseling in Vellore, the victim disclosed to doctors that her father was sexually abusing her.
The complaint filed with the police states that the father constantly pressured his daughter and threatened to abandon her mother if she revealed the abuse to anyone. This fear and mental torment led the victim into a deep depression, during which she even attempted suicide. After returning from Vellore, the victim’s mother lodged a written complaint at the New Township police station in Durgapur.
The police swiftly registered a case under the Indian Penal Code and POCSO Act, leading to the arrest of the accused in Dumka. Meanwhile, the arrested individual has proclaimed his innocence, claiming that he has been falsely implicated and that this is a conspiracy orchestrated by his wife. The police are conducting a thorough investigation into the matter.
