Bengaluru, June 1: Karnataka’s appointed Chief Minister and state Congress President, DK Shivakumar, extended his best wishes to students on the commencement of the new academic year on Monday.
He emphasized that premier institutions like IISc, NLSIU, ISRO, and HAL are located in Karnataka, urging students to carry forward their legacy. He refrained from commenting on the hijab-saffron shawl controversy, stating that discussions on such matters would take place at an appropriate time.
Shivakumar encouraged students to seize the opportunities that lie ahead, marking the beginning of a new academic year. “On behalf of the government and personally, I wish all students entering this new academic year the best,” he said.
He highlighted that the state has nurtured generations of skilled professionals who have made significant contributions worldwide. Many individuals who received their early education in Karnataka have gone on to make substantial contributions to humanity. The state’s rich educational heritage continues to attract attention globally, producing outstanding scientists, lawyers, professors, and professionals across various fields.
He pointed out that some of the country’s leading institutions, including the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Indian Institute of Management (IIM), National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), are situated in Karnataka.
Shivakumar urged students to advance this legacy, stating, “We are entering a new era shaped by technology and innovation. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is here, and in the coming days, I will share my thoughts and plans regarding AI and the state’s education policy.”
Addressing students from rural areas, he encouraged them not to feel inferior compared to their urban counterparts. “No student should lose their self-confidence. Do not compare yourself to others. Our teachers are capable, and the results of the SSLC (Class 10) exams are proof of the quality of education in our schools. We are committed to improving the education system and giving it a new direction.”
He further assured that current and future governments will continue to support students and work towards strengthening educational opportunities across the state.
