Lucknow, May 11: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader Mayawati has expressed deep concern over the violent clash in Lalwala village, Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, regarding a dispute over displaying a photograph. She highlighted that several members of the Dalit community were injured, creating a tense atmosphere in the area.
Mayawati urged the police and administration to take immediate and impartial action to restore order. She also appealed to both parties involved to resolve their differences peacefully and legally.
On her social media platform X, Mayawati stated, “The situation in Lalwala village of Saharanpur district, Uttar Pradesh, is quite tense due to a dispute and subsequent clash over placing a photo on the land, resulting in injuries to many Dalits. The police and administration must take prompt and fair action to control the situation. I also urge both communities to maintain peace and harmony, resolving the matter through legal means rather than force.”
Notably, the conflict in Lalwala village escalated into violence over land ownership between two communities. Intense stone-pelting and physical altercations occurred, injuring several individuals. As tensions rose, police arrived on the scene and had to use batons to disperse the crowd.
One side alleges that the other attempted to occupy their land to erect a statue of a revered figure from their community, while the accused claim the land is part of their purchased property. Following the incident, leaders and activists from the Bhim Army, Azad Samaj Party, and BSP rushed to the village, further heightening tensions. In light of the situation’s sensitivity, a heavy police presence has been deployed in the area.
According to police officials, the dispute centers on land ownership, and a thorough investigation is underway to determine the necessary legal actions. Meanwhile, police stopped the national president of the Azad Samaj Party, Chandrashekhar Azad, from entering the village.
