PM Modi Chairs 51st Progress Meeting, Emphasizes Rooftop Solar Implementation

New Delhi, May 28: Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired the 51st Progress (Pro-Active Governance and Timely Implementation) meeting on Wednesday. The meeting took place at ‘Seva Teerth’, focusing on the review of major projects through improved coordination between the central and state governments.

During the meeting, seven significant infrastructure projects related to railways, power, and roads were reviewed, with a total estimated cost of around ₹30,000 crore. These projects are currently underway across nine states in the country.

The Prime Minister also conducted a detailed review of the Ken-Betwa river linking project and the Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban 2.0. He stated that the Ken-Betwa river interlinking project should serve as a model for other states, promoting cooperation and mutual understanding to resolve water disputes.

He urged states to advance river linking projects, water conservation, groundwater recharge, and improved irrigation in an integrated manner to ensure long-term water security.

While reviewing power sector projects, PM Modi stressed the need to implement rooftop solar initiatives in urban areas, residential neighborhoods, and public institutions on a mission mode. He highlighted that this would reduce electricity costs, enhance energy security, and promote clean energy. The Prime Minister also called for exploring the potential of installing solar panels on and along canals.

Discussing road and port connectivity projects, he emphasized that the Vadavan port should be developed not just as a port, but as a major multi-modal logistics hub for the country. He stated that this project should be linked to coastal shipping, inland waterways, dedicated freight corridors, high-speed rail, highways, and airport connectivity as part of a national gateway.

During the review of the Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban 2.0, the Prime Minister noted that the campaign should not be limited to infrastructure development but should yield visible results on the ground. He directed states to expedite projects related to solid waste management, waste processing plants, and Gobardhan plants.

PM Modi also pointed out that delays in public projects not only increase costs but also hinder timely access to essential services for the public. He appealed to ministries, departments, and states to resolve pending issues swiftly and complete work within stipulated timelines.

At the beginning of the meeting, the Cabinet Secretary informed that, following the Prime Minister’s directives, a new system for monthly reviews of social sector schemes at the state level has been initiated.
