Maharashtra Chief Minister Urges Acceleration of Infrastructure Projects for Prosperity

Mumbai, June 5: Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed relevant agencies to eliminate obstacles hindering project completion and ensure that contractors strictly adhere to deadlines.

He instructed departments to blacklist contractors who cause unwarranted delays, preventing them from participating in future projects. Fadnavis emphasized the necessity of expediting infrastructure development projects for the prosperity of Maharashtra.

These directives were issued during a review meeting of major projects at the Chief Minister’s Infrastructure War Room. He stated that infrastructure projects should be completed within a timeframe of three to three and a half years. When issuing tenders, the evaluation criteria should include the contractor’s track record for timely completion of previous projects. Delays by contractors lead to financial losses at both national and state levels, making any delay in project completion unacceptable.

Fadnavis acknowledged that infrastructure projects face numerous challenges but stressed that departments must actively overcome these hurdles.

During the review of the Dharavi slum redevelopment project, he instructed officials to initiate the process of providing state GST exemptions to local entrepreneurs. This initiative aims to boost local businesses and transition Dharavi’s vast informal economy into a formal one.

He directed officials involved in the reconstruction of BDD Chawls at NM Joshi Marg, Naigaon, and Worli to provide residents with rental accommodations, immediately take possession of existing homes, and commence construction without delay.

Fadnavis insisted that the Thane-Borivali twin tunnel project must be completed within the stipulated timeframe. He also set interim goals for progress monitoring every three months.

For the Goregaon-Mulund Link Road (GMLR) project, he mandated a strict deadline of January 2029, which will significantly ease connectivity between western and eastern suburbs.

The Chief Minister called for a swift acceleration of work on the Bandra-Versova Sea Link project and urged the removal of remaining obstacles immediately. He advised maintaining fuel supply lines to ensure uninterrupted construction across all sites. For the Virar-Alibag multi-modal corridor, he ordered a faster land acquisition process.

He encouraged agencies to strategically plan how the state government can capitalize on this growth. He suggested identifying specific zones along the corridor where the government can allocate land for targeted industrial development to attract investors.

Additionally, the Chief Minister highlighted the need to expedite the completion of the Pune Ring Road. He instructed officials to accelerate land allocation for the Mula-Mutha River rejuvenation project. With the expansion of Pune’s metro network, he emphasized the necessity for an integrated ticketing system.

In the context of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar’s water supply, the Chief Minister urged the municipal corporation and the water supply department to collaborate, resolve technical issues, and ensure a consistent and ample water supply for city residents.
