New Delhi, April 9: In a significant crackdown on organized crime, the Delhi Police have dismantled a human trafficking and immoral prostitution racket operating in the SN Marg area of central Delhi. During this operation, eight women were rescued, including one minor. Authorities seized cash, foreign currency, narcotics, and alcohol from the scene.
According to police officials, the operation was conducted late Wednesday night at a location near Ajmeri Gate. It was initiated based on specific and sensitive information regarding trafficking activities.
Under the supervision of ACP Rinchan Ongamu Bhutia and led by SI Kiran Sethi, a special team executed a well-planned raid with the assistance of the crime team, forensic science laboratory (FSL) experts, and members of an NGO.
During the raid, police encountered several women and men. Investigations revealed that the premises were being used for organized, immoral trafficking and prostitution activities.
A total of eight women were rescued, including a 17-year-old minor who reported being brought to Delhi from West Bengal. She alleged that a woman named Alia, also known as Pinky, had trafficked her and subsequently handed her over to a couple named Kumari and Rahul, who were reportedly running the illegal operation.
The minor further disclosed that two individuals, identified as Gopi Ram Parihar, alias Suraj, and Luma Kant Pandey, alias Motu, were working as managers. They handled financial transactions and assisted clients.
Police also rescued seven other women, some of whom were allegedly hidden in cramped and concealed rooms within the premises, indicating attempts to evade capture.
During the search operation, authorities recovered a significant amount of incriminating items, including ₹197,000 in cash, $118, Nepalese currency notes, and other foreign currency. Additionally, 33 grams of marijuana, used and unused condoms, fabric scraps suspected to be stained with bodily fluids, and transaction records were seized.
Other items recovered included colored circular tokens, two knives, drugs, eight diaries, and a large quantity of alcohol, comprising 264 bottles and 478 cans of beer.
Two suspects, Parihar (36) and Pandey (41), both from Nepal, have been arrested. Meanwhile, the main accused, Kumari and her husband Rahul, remain at large, and efforts to locate and apprehend them are ongoing.
Police reported that multiple FIRs have been filed under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and the Excise Act.
Officials stated that the nature and scale of the recovered items indicate a well-organized interstate trafficking network involving victims from West Bengal, Assam, and Nepal. Further investigations are underway to identify other members of the gang and uncover the full extent of the network.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Rohit Rajbir Singh from the central district emphasized that efforts to rescue more victims and dismantle the larger trafficking syndicate operating in the area are ongoing.
