New Delhi, May 6: The Cyber Police of North-West Delhi has achieved a significant breakthrough. They have arrested Abbas Khan, the mastermind behind a sextortion racket, who hails from Ramgarh Tehsil in Alwar district, Rajasthan. The accused was also actively involved in online fraud and scams.
A resident of Shalimar Bagh lodged a complaint regarding cyber fraud, claiming he was cheated out of ₹2.52 lakh. According to the complainant, he received a friend request from a woman on Facebook. During their conversation, the accused obtained his mobile number. Subsequently, he received a video call on WhatsApp, during which explicit content was shown. After disconnecting the call, the victim began receiving threatening messages, claiming that his video had been recorded and would be made viral.
Out of fear, the victim paid the accused in multiple installments, totaling ₹2.52 lakh. An e-FIR was registered, and an investigation commenced.
Given the seriousness of the case, a special police team was formed. The team conducted a technical investigation, examining digital footprints, call detail records, and bank accounts. The investigation revealed that the WhatsApp and Facebook accounts, as well as the bank accounts, were operated using fake (mule) identities.
Through technical analysis, police traced the entire network back to the Mewat region. With the assistance of local police, they conducted a raid early in the morning and apprehended the accused. During the raid, a mobile phone was seized, which was used to execute the crime.
During interrogation, the accused revealed that he created fake Facebook IDs to send friend requests to men. Once a request was accepted, he would obtain their WhatsApp numbers. He would then show pre-recorded explicit videos during video calls and simultaneously record the screen.
The victims were subsequently blackmailed using these videos. The accused also disclosed that several young men from his village were involved in similar cyber fraud activities. Police recovered an iPhone 14 Pro from the accused, which was used in the crime. Currently, the police are searching for other suspects, and the investigation is ongoing.
Delhi Police has urged the public to be cautious of unknown individuals on social media and to report any suspicious activities immediately.
