Kolkata, April 29: The second phase of voting for the West Bengal Assembly elections 2026 is underway in Kolkata and various regions. BJP candidates have expressed confidence in conducting peaceful elections with the help of central security forces, asserting that the Mamata government is on its way out and a BJP government is on the horizon.
BJP candidate Swapna Dasgupta from the Rashbehari Assembly constituency remarked that the voting process has started on an encouraging note. He noted long queues at polling stations, indicating that voters are eagerly exercising their rights. According to him, a higher voter turnout will further strengthen hopes for change in West Bengal.
Meanwhile, BJP candidate Biman Ghosh from the Purshura Assembly constituency urged voters to head out early in the morning to cast their votes. He described the election as a festival of democracy, encouraging participation with the sentiment of “first vote, then feast.” He claimed that this time, the first phase’s voting record could be broken, and the BJP would secure more seats to form the government. He criticized the ruling Trinamool Congress, labeling it a “private limited company of the aunt-nephew duo,” and stated that real change is imminent in the state.
Biman Ghosh also reacted sharply to the alleged attack on MP Mithali Bag’s car during the campaign, calling it “drama” and asserting that the public understands such tactics and that they will not yield political gains.
BJP candidate Pawan Singh from the Bhatar seat expressed satisfaction after voting. He mentioned that voting has been peaceful so far and hoped that the atmosphere would remain calm throughout the day. He urged citizens to participate in large numbers, emphasizing that voting is not just a right but also a responsibility. He expressed concern that many people treat election day as a holiday and fail to vote.
He also commented on the security arrangements in the area, referencing a recent attack in which a central force member was shot. He noted that the administration has become stricter following the incident, leading to several arrests.
From the Panihati seat, BJP candidate Ratna Debnath, mother of a victim from RG Kar Medical College, expressed confidence that justice would prevail and that the public would support her. She stated, “We will win, we will get justice.”
