NCP Emphasizes Unity Amid Political Turmoil in Maharashtra

Mumbai, May 27: Amidst the political upheaval in Maharashtra, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has conveyed a strong message of unity and organizational strength. Party President and Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar chaired a significant meeting with legislators, MPs, and senior officials on Tuesday, emphasizing that all leaders must speak with “one voice” for the party’s fortitude.

This meeting came at a time when the announcement of the new national executive list had stirred internal unrest and confusion within the party. The absence of several prominent and veteran leaders from the list submitted to the Election Commission sparked intense political discussions.

In the new executive, Sunetra Pawar has been appointed as the National President. Her elder son, Parth Pawar, has taken on the role of National General Secretary, while her younger son, Jai Pawar, has been designated as National Secretary. The omission of senior leaders like Praful Patel, Sunil Tatkare, Chhagan Bhujbal, and Dilip Walse Patil from the list has led to speculations about significant changes and potential internal strife within the party.

However, party spokespersons later clarified that Praful Patel and Sunil Tatkare remain in their previous positions. Nonetheless, there is still hope among party workers and leaders for clarity regarding the situation.

During the meeting, Sunetra Pawar noted that she took on the responsibilities of party president and deputy chief minister at a challenging time, following the untimely demise of Ajit Pawar. She expressed optimism about the party’s future, stating that collective effort from all leaders and workers is essential for success.

The meeting also witnessed a light exchange between state unit chief Sunil Tatkare and senior leader Chhagan Bhujbal. While Tatkare was addressing the gathering, Bhujbal urged him to shorten his speech, as he had to attend a coordination committee meeting with Mahayuti allies. Despite this, Tatkare continued speaking, asserting that he and Praful Patel had been portrayed as “villains” within the party, even as they worked to strengthen the organization.

Tatkare reiterated that he had clarified in a press conference last week that all misunderstandings within the party had been resolved. He also mentioned that party leaders and workers would soon embark on a joint tour across Maharashtra to further bolster the organization.

He added that a revised letter would soon be submitted to the Election Commission, and positive discussions had taken place among the party’s top leaders regarding this matter.

During the meeting, three experts presented on the role of SIR and its function within the organization. Additionally, the party has decided to celebrate its foundation day on June 10 on a grand scale, sending a message that it is prepared to face any challenges ahead.
