Telangana Official Caught Accepting Bribe of ₹2 Lakhs

Hyderabad, May 27: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Telangana apprehended a tehsildar on Tuesday while accepting a bribe of ₹2 lakhs.

T. Suchitra, the tehsildar and executive magistrate of the Shamshabad mandal in the Medchal-Malkajgiri district, is accused of demanding ₹30 lakhs in bribes in exchange for approving the conversion of 30 acres of agricultural land.

ACB officials revealed that the ₹2 lakhs was received as a partial payment through her personal driver, V. Nagesh. Suchitra allegedly solicited the bribe for processing and approving applications for the conversion of agricultural land into non-agricultural use.

The ACB stated that the suspicious amount of ₹2 lakhs was recovered from the accused officer’s driver. The agency noted that Suchitra had improperly and dishonestly discharged her duties to gain undue benefits.

Both the tehsildar and her driver were arrested and presented before the special judge at Nampally for judicial custody. The investigation is ongoing, and the details of the complainant have been kept confidential for security reasons.

In a separate incident, Kammari Brahmaiah, a mandal surveyor from the Waddepalli mandal in Jogulamba Gadwal district, was also caught accepting a bribe of ₹10,000. According to the ACB, he demanded ₹15,000 as a reward for surveying the complainant’s parents’ land.

Previously, on May 6, the accused officer allegedly requested and accepted ₹5,000 in cash as an advance. The ₹10,000 bribe was recovered from him as well. The ACB reiterated that the officer had improperly and dishonestly discharged his duties for personal gain.

The accused officer has been arrested and presented before the special judge for judicial custody. The investigation continues, with the agency maintaining confidentiality regarding the complainant’s identity for safety reasons.

The ACB urged the public to report any demands for bribes by public servants by contacting the toll-free number 1064 for legal action.
