New Delhi, May 27: The ongoing crisis in the Middle East has led to a continuous rise in petrol and diesel prices, severely impacting the common people. In response, the opposition has launched a fierce attack on the central government. They argue that while the BJP held extensive rallies during the recent assembly elections, they have now begun to increase fuel prices citing international crises.
Congress leader Sachin Pilot stated in a media interaction that during the assembly elections, the government did not openly discuss any significant economic troubles or inflation. According to him, as soon as the elections concluded, the government gradually started raising fuel prices. He noted that the government often points to international events, such as tensions between Iran and the U.S., as reasons for these increases, but the direct impact on the public is undeniable.
Pilot emphasized that the rising costs of petrol and diesel not only make driving more expensive but also inflate the prices of all goods due to increased transportation costs. He expressed concern over the continuous rise in inflation, stating that the government lacks a solid plan to control it.
Saurabh Bhardwaj, leader of the Aam Aadmi Party and Delhi state president, also criticized the central government. He mentioned that fuel prices have been rising every five to six days, adding to the burden on the common people. He reiterated that his party has consistently claimed that the government keeps prices in check during elections, only to raise them afterward.
Meanwhile, Kunal Ghosh from the Trinamool Congress expressed serious concern over the escalating prices. He pointed out that the consistent increase in petrol and diesel prices is a grave situation that directly affects the wallets of ordinary citizens. He noted that in recent days, prices have risen in several phases, affecting petrol, LPG, and commercial gas. He warned that this trend impacts the entire market, as higher transportation costs lead to increased prices for all goods. Ghosh also mentioned that his party is protesting against these price hikes to draw the government’s attention to the issue.
Former Samajwadi Party MLA Pawan Pandey highlighted the ongoing electricity cuts in Uttar Pradesh, alongside rising fuel and gas prices, making life increasingly difficult for the public. He accused several government offices, including police stations, hospitals, and tehsils, of rising corruption and exploitation. According to him, there is widespread discontent among the people, which has led to ongoing protests.
