Khajuraho, May 27: Prataprao Jadhav, the Union Minister of State for AYUSH, announced that the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga will kick off a 25-day countdown to the International Yoga Day 2026 on Wednesday.
This initiative will take place at the Western Group of Temples in Khajuraho, Madhya Pradesh. Prior to the event, Jadhav addressed a press conference in Khajuraho, emphasizing the importance of this countdown in raising awareness and encouraging public participation through yoga demonstrations, awareness campaigns, and community activities across the nation.
The countdown will commence at 6 AM, with enthusiastic participation expected from yoga practitioners, students, officials, and wellness enthusiasts from all over the country, who will collectively practice the ‘Common Yoga Protocol.’
During the media briefing, Jadhav highlighted that the Yoga Festival 2026 serves as a significant milestone in the nationwide preparations for the 12th International Yoga Day. It reflects the government’s commitment to expanding the reach of yoga throughout India.
He noted that Khajuraho is a vibrant symbol of India’s rich cultural heritage, and hosting a 25-day yoga festival at such a historic site beautifully illustrates the harmony between Indian tradition and modern wellness.
The AYUSH Ministry is also running a nationwide 100-day countdown campaign in collaboration with 100 institutions across 100 locations, aimed at promoting widespread public participation.
Jadhav pointed out that yoga, an integral part of India’s cultural and spiritual heritage, has evolved into a global movement for holistic health and wellness since the United Nations adopted International Yoga Day in 2014, an initiative spearheaded by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He further mentioned that the AYUSH Ministry, in collaboration with Habuild, is conducting a 100-day free yoga training campaign leading up to June 21, with over 200,000 participants already registered as yoga friends.
