Improve Your Posture with Tadasana: Benefits Highlighted by AYUSH Ministry

New Delhi, May 9: As International Yoga Day approaches, the AYUSH Ministry of the Government of India emphasizes the importance of maintaining proper posture. They recommend adopting the Tadasana yoga pose. According to the ministry, achieving the right posture is not an overnight process. It begins with awareness, balance, and how we stand daily.

Tadasana, also known as the ‘Mountain Pose,’ is highly beneficial for improving body alignment, strengthening posture, enhancing stability, and establishing a solid foundation for overall physical balance. While it may appear simple, this fundamental yoga pose effectively promotes awareness and better coordination among the spine and various body parts.

Experts suggest that improving posture, creating stability, and supporting spinal alignment can start with this easy standing pose. In today’s fast-paced lifestyle, prolonged use of computers or mobile devices has led to common posture-related issues. These can result in back pain, neck discomfort, and fatigue. Regular practice of Tadasana can alleviate these problems.

To practice Tadasana, begin by standing straight. Keep your feet together and distribute your weight evenly across both feet. Straighten your knees while gently pulling your thighs inward. Engage your core slightly and lift your chest forward. Relax your shoulders down and back to keep your spine straight. Maintain a neutral neck position, focusing your gaze on a point ahead. Keep your arms straight by your sides or bring your palms together in a prayer position at your chest. Breathe deeply throughout the pose, holding it for 30 to 60 seconds.

Practicing Tadasana offers numerous benefits for both body and mind. It strengthens and straightens the spine, reduces tension in the shoulders and neck, enhances body balance and stability, boosts confidence, improves concentration, and energizes the entire body.

The AYUSH Ministry urges individuals of all ages, especially youth and office workers, to incorporate Tadasana into their daily routines. This pose can be practiced for 5-10 minutes either on an empty stomach in the morning or in the evening. Beginners may also use a wall for support during practice.
