New Delhi, June 3: Following the tragic shooting of a teenager in Amar Colony, South East Delhi, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Harsh Indora announced that formalities are underway to prosecute the main suspect, a minor, as an adult in court.
The incident occurred on the evening of May 26 at approximately 7:54 PM, where a 17-year-old was dining with friends at a food stall. A minor altercation ensued when a group of youths passed by and one of them accidentally bumped into a chair. According to police reports, the suspects initially left the scene but returned about 4-5 minutes later, at which point one of them opened fire on the teenager.
DCP Indora confirmed that three suspects have been arrested, while efforts are ongoing to locate a fourth individual, whose name is associated with the registered vehicle used in the crime.
In an interview with a news agency, DCP Indora stated, “The main accused, who fired at the victim, is a minor and is currently in our custody. We apprehended the minor within 24 hours of the crime. The other two suspects were arrested on May 30, and we are hopeful of capturing the fourth suspect soon.”
He added that the police have initiated necessary actions to ensure that the main accused, despite being a minor, faces prosecution as an adult. The weapon allegedly used in the crime and the vehicle have been seized, and investigations are ongoing to trace the source of the firearm.
Earlier, the father of the victim expressed a desire for the accused to face a fate similar to that of criminals dealt with by police under the governance of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Echoing her brother’s sentiments, the victim’s aunt called for the accused to be subjected to an “encounter.”
She told reporters, “Our entire family is shattered. We appeal for justice and for the accused to be punished.”
