Gorakhpur, June 3: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced that the Chiluatal tourism development project will be transformed into a premier eco-tourism and water sports destination, similar to Ramgarh Tal.
In previous administrations, water bodies were often encroached upon. Those that remained unoccupied became hotspots for pollution and crime. The double-engine government ensures that these water bodies are preserved, promoting nature conservation while developing them into attractive tourist spots for the community to enjoy.
CM Yogi made these remarks while inaugurating tourism development works at Chiluatal, a natural lake located on the northern edge of Gorakhpur. He dedicated the site, enhanced with an investment of over ₹20 crore, to the public, stating that good governance brings positive changes.
The Chief Minister also mentioned that a floating solar plant is being set up in collaboration with Coal India Limited, which will generate 20 megawatts of solar energy. This initiative aims to supply electricity to the entire city, contributing to the goal of achieving net-zero emissions.
Previously, Ramgarh Tal was the primary center for eco-tourism in Gorakhpur, but it faced issues with drainage water contamination. The lake has since been cleaned and desilted, ensuring that treated water is used. In contrast, Chiluatal boasts natural water sourced from surrounding forests.
CM Yogi highlighted the immense potential for water sports at Chiluatal, similar to Ramgarh Tal, which recently hosted the National Junior Rowing Championship with over 200 athletes from 22 states. The Chief Minister expressed confidence that visitors will be equally impressed by Chiluatal.
He praised Chiluatal’s natural environment, noting that the breeze from the waves creates a pleasant atmosphere. Families can visit for recreation and health benefits, free from pollution and disorder.
The Chief Minister emphasized that effective city development plans foster a positive perception of the city. He aims to transform Gorakhpur into a safe, smart, and sustainable city. The responsibility for preserving this development lies with the citizens.
He urged the public to protect development, avoid damaging public property, and refrain from littering. He cited the discovery of 56 bags of plastic during the cleaning of Ramgarh Tal, calling for a commitment to make Gorakhpur a plastic-free and clean city.
CM Yogi instructed BJP workers to organize cleanliness drives, tree planting, and yoga camps from World Environment Day on June 5 to International Yoga Day on June 21, in honor of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 12 years of successful governance.
He announced a large-scale tree planting campaign along Ramgarh Tal and Chiluatal under the “One Tree in Mother’s Name” initiative, led by local MPs and rural legislators. A major cleanliness campaign will precede this on June 4, followed by yoga camps on June 21 to promote health.
CM Yogi noted that the Gorakhpur fertilizer plant had been closed for 31 years. Now, with the plant operational, the area is seeing significant development, including the establishment of a Central School and a military school.
On this occasion, MP Ravi Kishan praised CM Yogi’s vision, stating that Gorakhpur is becoming a model of development in the country. He also mentioned that Chiluatal will soon become a center for film shoots, sharing a song he wrote about the lake.
Mayor Dr. Mangalesh Srivastava remarked that under CM Yogi’s leadership, no area of Gorakhpur has been neglected in terms of development. The Chief Minister’s vision has transformed the previously overlooked Chiluatal into a beautiful tourist destination.
During the inauguration of the tourism development and beautification works at Chiluatal, CM Yogi inspected the ghats and boating facilities. He also planted trees in the area to promote environmental conservation. The Chiluatal tourism development project is set to be completed by August 2026, with an investment of ₹12.95 crore.
