Sanjay Nirupam Highlights Discontent Within TMC Following Low Attendance of Legislators

Mumbai, June 3: Sanjay Nirupam, spokesperson for Shiv Sena, has pointed out the evident internal discontent within the Trinamool Congress (TMC) following the low attendance at a recent meeting of its legislators. He welcomed the central government’s decision to mandate the full rendition of “Vande Mataram” and criticized the Congress party’s previous appeasement politics.

Nirupam expressed support for India’s move to strengthen its Air Force with additional Rafale jets. He also predicted rising tensions within the India alliance regarding seat distribution ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh elections.

In an interview with a news agency, Nirupam praised the government’s decision on “Vande Mataram,” stating that the previous Congress decision to not allow its full rendition was influenced by appeasement towards Muslim voters. He emphasized that the new government does not succumb to such pressures. The central government has granted “Vande Mataram” the status of a national song, asserting that it must be sung in its entirety, as any fragmented rendition is unacceptable. He deemed this a patriotic decision in the nation’s interest, warning that anyone opposing it would be acting against India.

Nirupam raised concerns about potential conflicts over seat distribution within the India alliance as the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections approach. He noted that Congress is nearly defunct in the state and would need to rely on the Samajwadi Party to regain relevance. The Samajwadi Party, being the main opposition, is likely to retain more seats, leading to inevitable disputes between the two parties.

He stated that regardless of how many seats are divided, the NDA government will remain in power. Nirupam praised Yogi Adityanath’s administration for restoring law and order and dismantling mafia rule, suggesting that the electorate will rise above caste sentiments to support the NDA.

Nirupam also commented on the recent attack on Abhishek Banerjee, nephew of TMC chief Mamata Banerjee, which prompted her to convene a meeting of all legislators. Reports indicate that around 80 legislators were absent from this meeting. He argued that the lack of attendance from party members during a time of crisis indicates a fracture in the party’s unity and a loss of faith in its leadership. Should TMC legislators decide to form factions due to dissatisfaction with Mamata Banerjee’s leadership, he believes their decision should be respected.

Furthermore, Nirupam supported India’s initiative to bolster its Air Force with additional Rafale jets, highlighting the increasing likelihood of aerial warfare in the future. He recounted the effectiveness of Indian fighter jets during Operation Sindoor and the drone attacks executed by the military. With Pakistan responding with drone strikes, he stressed the necessity for India to enhance its fleet of fighter jets. The government has reportedly requested additional Rafale aircraft from France to strengthen the Air Force’s capabilities.
