New Delhi, June 3: In a tragic incident near the Saket Metro Station, a multi-story building collapsed in the Saidulajab area, resulting in the deaths of six individuals. On Tuesday, the Saket Court remanded 71-year-old owner Karamveer Sejwal to three days of police custody.
The Delhi Police had requested a five-day custody for Sejwal, arguing that as the building’s owner, they needed to examine ownership records. They also indicated that other suspects linked to the incident are currently at large. The previous builder had engaged in illegal construction, and Sejwal was aware of this. The court granted police custody to facilitate questioning and the investigation into other suspects.
Sejwal’s lawyer stated that a case has been registered under Section 105 for involuntary manslaughter. However, no evidence has been presented so far. The lawyer also noted that the land and construction conditions in the area were already weak and complex.
Currently, the police are investigating the causes of the collapse, the illegal construction, and the roles of other individuals involved. The court has instructed the police to complete their questioning within three days and submit a status report on the investigation.
The incident occurred last Sunday when a five-story building suddenly collapsed, falling onto a nearby canteen where many people were dining. Several individuals sustained serious injuries, and tragically, six lost their lives. Today, the Saket Court ruled on the investigation and the illegal construction, leading to the owner’s remand in police custody.
